How can therapy help me?
Therapists can provide a different perspective on the issues you are dealing with and offer the direction of a solution. Therapy can be beneficial if you are ready to do the work. Therapists can provide support:
problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping strategies for issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship troubles, unresolved childhood issues, grief, stress management, body image issues, and creative blocks.
Many people also find that therapy can be a tremendous asset to managing personal growth, interpersonal relationships, family concerns, marriage issues, and the hassles of daily life.

Life hits us all! When everyone goes through challenging situations in life, and while you may have successfully navigated through other difficulties you've faced, there's nothing wrong with seeking out extra support when you need it. In fact, therapy is for people who have enough self-awareness to realize they need a helping hand, and that is something to be admired. You are taking responsibility by accepting where you're at in life and making a commitment to change the situation by seeking therapy. Therapy provides long-lasting benefits and support, giving you the tools, you need to avoid triggers, re-direct damaging patterns, and overcome whatever challenges you face.
What can I expect from Therapy?
You can expect respect, not judgment. In most cases, people are seeking therapy simply because they have hit a tough spot. This is nothing to be ashamed about because this is something EVERYONE experiences. These tough spots are things like rocky relationships, job stress, grief, life changes. Reaching out for help does not make you crazy, it is actually quite the opposite. To get the best results you will need to trust the process and actively participate in the process.
During the initial 1-2 sessions, an Assessment will be completed. During this time, the therapist and the client(s) will build rapport through examining the problem areas and the discussion is centered around the effects of the problem and efforts that have been used to alleviate the issue. Once this is complete, together you and the therapist will create goals that you will work towards in order to measure your progress of being closer to a healthier you.
You can expect confidentiality – no exceptions.
What is shared in therapy absolutely does not leave the room without your permission! It doesn’t matter if the therapist is a family friend, or if a parent or spouse came with you to the first appointment or pays for your therapy – as long as you are 18+ years of age, you, and only you, decide who is privy to what you discuss in therapy. For children in therapy, general information and updates will be shared with the parents.
*The only exception to this is in event that you are planning to harm yourself or someone else; in that case, your safety takes priority and your therapist may alert your whole “team” (family members, other doctors, or police) so they can be involved to prevent harm.*
What is the difference between "counseling" and "coaching"?
Counseling is a service provided by a licensed professional who is trained to work with clients who are struggling with disorders such as depression, anxiety, grief, post-traumatic disorder, and anger issues. The client works to explore the source of the problem by examining past experiences and feelings that may have developed as a result of the experience. The focus on counseling is to work towards resolving and stabilizing feelings and thoughts which produces healthy long-term mental health and an increase in confidence to handling life.
Coaching is focused primarily focused on the future without the exploration of the "root" of what may have caused the problem. Many coaches help their clients to develop goals that will increase the strength and capacity to embrace the opportunity. Coaching provides accountability and support to increase feelings about approaching future goals.
How many sessions will we need?
The number of sessions is determined during the first initial session. If additional sessions are needed, the therapist and the client will discuss it during a session.
Do you take insurance, and how does that work?
To determine if you have mental health coverage through your insurance carrier, the first thing you should do is call them. Check your coverage carefully and make sure you understand their answers. Some helpful questions you can ask them:
